It is October 2018. Christoph Cottignie has been working at the Sint-Vincentius hospital in Antwerp for eight years. She immediately catches the attention of the youngmale nurse. “I had already tried to find her on Facebook in vain. She couldnot be found on other social media either,” says Christoph. “I also didn’tdare to speak to her when I passed her in the corridor of the hospital. Ifound that quite embarrassing with all those colleagues around.”

It sounded like music to Christoph’sears. “We agreed a few weeks later. On our first date we went to a cozyItalian restaurant. It clicked immediately. We turned out to have a lot of thesame interests. We both had a cat as a pet. Conversational enough. After thatdinner we went for a cocktail at the Groenplaats in Antwerp. It was alreadyquite late when we got back to the hospital where her bike was still standing.It was cold and wet. After some insistence, I was allowed to take her home bycar.”

Christoph and Ine agreed to meet again a week later. But a second date was notlong in coming. “It’s my birthday on November 11,” says Christoph. “A birthdayparty with the family was planned on that day. I had told Ine that I wouldcome to her after that party. But that party turned out pretty well. At acertain moment I left anyway and I brought a piece of cake and a bottle ofcava for Ine. That was not the best idea, because Ine turned out not to likecava at all.”

Fortunately, that blunder did not stand in the way of the fledgling love. Thetwo never left each other. When Ine received an offer to work at the ZOL inGenk, Christoph did not hesitate for a moment. He quit his job at Sint-Vincentius Hospital, left his familiar home in Hove in Antwerp and followedhis love to Limburg. “Not such a big risk, because nurses are looking for themeverywhere,” he says. They both now work at the ZOL in Genk: Christoph as anintensive care nurse and Ine as a cardiologist in training. “I moved toHasselt in July last year. Normally we would get married on July 1, 2023, butfor family reasons we brought that date forward to November 12, 2022. One dayafter my birthday,” Christoph nods.

Theseries presents the truths and lies of Olofsson in a flashy fun package of sixepisodes. Because the series takes place between the 1960s and the 1980s, itis a guaranteed wardrobe spectacle and visually distorted fast in nature.

‘Tehran’ (Apple TV+)

If Glenn Close can learn Farsi, so can you. Her role as a CIA agent in thesecond season of this Emmy-winning Israeli spy thriller saw the ‘FatalAttraction’ star say she had to do some serious cleaning. Not only thelanguage was new, the multilingual cast and the many location recordings werealso quite a living for Close. Halfway through the conversation via Zoom, Michiel Huisman apologizes andstands up. Writer and showrunner Mark Boal, the big man behind series Echo 3, enters the room and greets his protagonist with a warm hug – a relativelysimple scene that was almost unthinkable during the corona pandemic. The ten-part series is about a scientist who disappears on the border betweenColombia and Venezuela. P. ¿Cuántas horas ha dedicado para llegar en tan buena forma?

R . Muchas, cuando estuve lesionado abría y cerraba las instalaciones delLeipzig. Estaba de ocho de la mañana hasta las cinco o las seis de la tarde.Gimnasio, dobles sesiones, fisioterapia, conversaciones con mi psycologa y conmi padre…

P. ¿Y al equipo cómo lo ve físicamente? A Gavi ya Pedri les costó superarlas marcas individuales de los alemanes.

R . Al fútbol se gana con la pelota en los pies, corriendo también sepuede ganar, pero si no tienes la pelota…

P. Usted corre mucho tambien. ¿Le han medido las distancias?

R . Sí, estuve en diez kilómetros contra Alemania y contra Costa Rica algomás. Los datos de intensidad en estos partidos también son elevados.

P. Con Luis Enrique no les queda otra.

R . Y más a los delanteros, que nos exige tanto. Hay que dárselo.

P. ¿Por qué eligió Zagreb cuando dejó el Barça siendo juvenil?

R . El proyecto que me ofrecían tenía muchos ejemplos claros defutbolistas que salieron de allí como Modric, Mandzukic o ahora Gvardiol. ElDínamo es una máquina de sacar talento y pensé que era lo mejor para miprogresión y no me equivoqué. Croacia y Zagreb son mi segunda casa.

P. Eso ha hecho que sea el gran desconocido de esta selección para elaficionado español.

R . Puede ser, no es algo que me preocupe, pero creo que la gente cada vezme conoce más.

P. ¿Como le diría a la gente qué es dentro y fuera del campo?

R . Fuera soy tranquilo, amigo de mis amigos. Aquí hago de todo, juego albillar, al pimpón, a la pocha, al Mario Kart … soy un chico normal. Dentrodel campo soy ambicioso, con ganas de crecer.

P. Como extremo se le ve muy inteligente para atacar espacios.

R . Intento interpretar de la mejor manera el juego, como se mueven elrival y mis compañeros. El mister nos da consignas muy claras en el juegoposicional. Son movimientos que ya tengo automatizados, aunque hay veces quehay que improvisar para sorprender.

P. ¿Se encuentra cómodo como false new?

R . Sí, en el Leipzig estoy acostumbrado a jugar de mediapunta ya recibirentrelíneas y bajo presión. El mister me conoce bien, sabe que puedo jugar enlas tres posiciones de ataque y también como interior.

P. Su padre es entrenador. ¿Le ha ayudado a tener esa lectura del juego?

R . Mucho, cuando estaba en el Dínamo trabajábamos el análisis de lospartidos con y sin balón, la lectura de los espacios, el pace de juego,conocer al compañero y sus características. Nos gusta hacerlo, antes hablabamás él, ahora soy yo.

P. Con Jordi Alba sincroniza bien.

R . Es un lateral de clase mundial, te lo pone muy fácil. No centra porcentar, te la pone y es medio gol. Parece fácil, pero no lo es, no hay muchoscomo él. El otro día contra Alemania el pase que le da Morata es eso, un pase,hay otros laterales que llegan y se nublan. Jordi es lo contrario.

R . Messi sin lugar a dudas. No sólo en el aspecto futbolístico, en el quees evidentemente mejor, también me quedo con él en el aspecto personal. Noconcibo idolatrar a un personaje rodeado de tantos escándalos.

P. Tres cosas que sepa de Qatar.

R . Que si eres homosexual te enfrentas a una pena de cárcel de hasta 10años, que las mujeres están tuteladas por los hombres y que hay mucho, muchopetróleo.

P. Última vez que le colaron un gol.

R . Trato de estar siempre alerta y creo que soy bastante espabilado endefensa, pero hace poco me tocó asumir responsabilidades por algo que yo nohabía hecho.

P. Un gol en propia puerta, algo de lo que se arrepienta.

R . Con 18 años tuve la posibilidad de marcharme becado a EEUU, continuarcon mi formación deportiva y estudiar una carrera allí. No lo hice porquepensaba que tratar de estar en el equipo nacional era más importante y quemarcharme me cerraría las puertas. Si volviese atrás, me iría sin pensarlo aCalifornia.

P. Y un gol en el 90: su gran golpe de suerte.

R . Cuando me comunicaron que el presidente Pedro Sánchez quería queformase parte de la ejecutiva del PSOE llevando las políticas LGTBI. No puedosentirme más afortunado de que me otorgase esa huge responsabilidad. Soy unprivilegiado por estar donde estoy y por poder trabajar por hacer la vida delas personas LGTBI mejor.

P. ¿Cuál fue su primer partido en el campo? ¿Quién le llevó ao quién sellevó?

R . Fue un Atlético de Madrid-Betis, and el Vicente Calderón. Debía ser2005. Nuestro entrenador nos llevó a mi hermano ya mi.

P. ¿Cuál es el mejor partido que ha visto?

R . Como fan del Atleti, el Barcelona- Atlético de Madrid de la temporada2013-2014. Era la última jornada de Liga y quedamos campeones en un partidoinolvidable. Otro gran partido que recuerdo es la final de la Champions entreel Milán y el Liverpool de 2005. El Milán ganaba 3-0 al descanso y elLiverpool terminó levantando la Champions.

P. ¿Alguna vez se escaqueó de algún compromiso por el fútbol?

R . Nunca he faltado a un entrenamiento ni a ninguna de misresponsabilidades por quedarme en casa viendo un partido, por muy importanteque fuese, pero sí he cancelado planes de ocio por el fútbol.

P. El sitio o las circunstancias más raras en las que ha consultado elmarcador de un partido de fútbol.

R . En el vestuario, antes de un partido internacional, momentos antes detirarme al agua.

P. Del Bosque – Luis Enrique. ¿1, X o 2?

R . Luis Aragones.

P. ¿Alguna superstición antes de salir al campo? ¿Rituals para las grandesocasiones?

R . ¡Muchísimos! Soy muy supersticioso para competir. Siempre me pongoesparadrapo en dos dedos, hago los mismos ejercicios en el calentamiento, tocolos tres palos de la portería antes de empezar, escucho las mismas cancionesen el mismo orden, me tomo un café justo antes de salir de casa y, si elúltimo partido fue bien, repito los mismos pantalones, ropa interior, reloj…Si no sale como yo quiero el partido, cambio algunas rutinas.

El delantero centro de Polonia se tomó el evento “como un resumen” de sucarrera.
