Viewers melt from Erna and André in Heel Holland Bakt

Bakers ready? Bake! The new episode of All of Holland bakes last night wasall about caramel. But viewers had mostly eye for the friendship that seemsto arise between presenter André van Duin and baker Erna.

“Can Erna and André make a program together? What a wonderful duo,” writes aviewer on Twitter.

Sweet, sweeter, sweetest in Heel Holland Bakt

In the All of Holland bakes kitchen, the bakers have to put three sweets onthe table this week to prove themselves. No Van Gogh artworks this time, but aFrench tarte tatin, a technical assignment with toffee and a croquembouche asicing on the cake.

Bakker and social worker Erna explains to Van Duin how she will approach theFrench tarte tatin. “I’m going to make a kind of syrup with ginger andpineapple. And then I will also make caramel”, Erna begins. “And you put thatcaramel on the paper?” asks Van Duin doubtfully, looking at the paper in thepan. “Yes, I was planning to. But now that you ask that question I get a senseof; well, it can also be done without paper”, laughs Erna. “Is that right?”Van Duin admits that he has indeed never seen making caramel on paper.

In the end, Erna manages to put a nice tarte tatin on the table. Only she hasforgotten the sugar in the accompanying whipped cream… “Well then I think Idon’t have to,” laughs presenter Janny van der Heijden. But she still takes abite together with Van Duin and Robèrt van Beckhoven. Unfortunately for Erna, the three are not very impressed with her tarte tatin and the spicy whippedcream.

Babblers prove to be a major challenge

In the other two assignments Erna also fails to rise above the other bakers. For the technical assignment, the bakers have to make babblers. Something thatsounds simple, but turns out to be quite difficult. Erna gets stressed severaltimes while making the babblers, especially when her babbler dough resembles a”muscle”. “Oh no, this can’t be! I’m really at the bottom of the list”, Ernasighs with a laugh. “I am becoming a toffee myself.”

Erna is not the only one who finds making the babblers difficult. “What amess”, baker Jan sighs. “Ben, do you have any tips?” he asks hopefully. Co-baker Ben has to laugh, but doesn’t immediately give a tip. To Jan’sdisappointment: „Competition huh? Then you immediately know what the situationis.” Fortunately for him, Ben eventually rushes over to give Jan a helpinghand.

About the end result of all babblers is the All of Holland bakes jury notsatisfied. Unfortunately for Jan and Erna, the help they received is notenough: they end up with their babblers in second to last and last place.Bakker Geraldine goes there after the first baking day of this one All ofHolland bakes episode took first place.

Croquembouche the last challenge of the day

For the last assignment, the bakers have to make a croquembouche (a chouxtower). After that, the day starts already stressed: “It was very difficultfor me to get to sleep. I had a lot of adrenaline, but then I fell asleep likea log. Until suddenly I felt a kiss on my cheek. That turned out to be myhusband, who woke me up because I had to go back to work,” she explains.Because Erna also dangles at the bottom of the list, the pressure is evengreater. Fortunately, Van Duin is there to support her.

Our André is so much more than just a great presenter!> 💙#HHB> pic.twitter.com/k7tRB6h9HT>> — Heel Holland Bakes (@heelhollandbakt) January 8,> 2023

The other bakers are also nervous. After all, it is the last assignment of theday and certainly not the easiest. Mercedes explains how the cake collapsedwhen she went to try this at home. “Now I have to do it, while it hasn’tworked out at all at home,” she laughs nervously. Making the croquembouche isalso not easy, Van Beckhoven explains. “It is a stacked choux tower withcrunchy caramel profiteroles. They must have a light filling, because you mustbe able to stack them. Sounds simple huh? That’s not it.”

Erna her Heel Holland Bakt adventure is coming to an end

Just like last week, baker Zineb stands out above the other bakers. The juryis most impressed by her croquembouche. “The taste is very special. Welldone”, Van Beckhoven compliments her. It is therefore no surprise to manyviewers that Zineb is appearing in this for the second time All of Hollandbakes season as Master Baker.

Unfortunately for Erna it holds All of Holland bakes adventure on. “I knewit. It’s good this way”, Erna responds, who fortunately can still laugh afterthe bad news. “I enjoyed it immensely.” Erna says goodbye to all jury membersand gives Van Duin a big hug. “You really are a great guy,” she laughs. Ernaalso reveals a secret: “I signed up to see you.” Van Duin bursts intolaughter. “Then you could have just called!” One thing is certain: the All ofHolland bakes viewers love this duo.

Bob Saget remembered on 1st anniversary since his death

It’s been one year since Bob Saget’s unexpected death and his loved ones arepaying tribute. Candace Cameron Bure said she “stayed up for hours watchingvideos of Bob on my phone” on the eve of the anniversary.

“Videos I couldn’t watch a year ago because it hurt too much. Last night theymade me laugh,” the Fullhouse star shared on Instagram. “They comforted meand warmed my heart. I watched them over and over and laughed so hard. I misshim so much and I’m grateful he was my friend for so many years. I love you,Bob… now go hug a friend like Bob would.”

Saget was found deceased on Jan. 9, 2022 at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando. Thecomedian’s cause of death was the result of blunt head trauma, likely afterthe star fell alone in his hotel room. He was 65.

Dave Coulier, who was extremely close to his co-star, said he and Saget became”instant brothers” when they met more than 40 years ago.

“Sometimes, I still grab my phone, ready to share one of the hundreds of sillybits that we did together. At some point today, I’ll think about how much Imiss him and I’ll shed some tears. Then I’ ll hear Bob’s voice, and it’ll makeme laugh. Enjoy the gifts of life while they’re still here with you. Tellthose you love that you love them…and hug them like Bob Saget,” the comedianshared.

Saget’s widow, Kelly Rizzo, wrote about the past 12 months for People __ andsaid it doesn’t feel like like it’s been “one year since I’ve seen or talkedto my husband. That just feels surreal. I’d say it feels like 3 months?? Butalso 300 years… time is so strange now!

“Each day is a mixture of remembering him as my sweet and adorable husband whowas my best friend and do everything he could every day to make me feel lovedand special… mixed with me remembering him as how the world saw him… a greatcomedian , a person who could bring out the best in people, and a man with aphilanthropic heart who only wanted to help people,” Rizzo wrote.

The travel and lifestyle blogger added, “The most comfort I have received isfrom Bob’s daughters. I can’t imaging not having each other through thispainful journey.” Saget has three adult daughters from his first marriage.

“Bob changed my life just by being the person who he was. Complicated, brilliant, compassionate, hilarious, neurotic, opinionated, loving, adorable, complex, determined, loyal and sweet. He taught me so much about how to be abetter person , how to love ourselves and others more completely. He taught methat life can be very hard and that death is a part of it all and we just haveto tell everyone we love how much we love them because we never know how longwe have ,” she wrote.

“I miss his sweetness and his cuteness. I know it’s not a side everyone saw,but damn was he adorable. I miss how he treated me like I was the only womanin the entire world and I’ll miss how he looked at me all day every day,”Rizzo continued.

“I want people to know that there is nothing more that Bob wanted out of lifethan to make people laugh and entertain people. All he wanted was to makepeople happy. He was also fiercely dedicated to his cause, The SclerodermaResearch Foundation, it was his life’s work,” she concluded. “So pleaseremember him as a comedian who truly loved people and wanted to bring them joyand as a man who never hesitated to give back and help people. He truly was aGREAT man.”

The Scleroderma Research Foundation, a cause extremely close to Saget’s heart, also paid tribute. Saget’s sister Gay died from scleroderma, a rare and oftenfatal disease, in 1994. He made it his life’s mission to raise funding for acure.

“Today, January 9th, marks one year since we lost our dear friend, Bob Saget, and we’ve missed him every single day. Bob was a deeply caring friend whoselove and positivity radiated to everyone. He brought hope and inspiration toscleroderma patients everywhere and worked tirelessly to support researchefforts that would bring a cure,” the organization said on Monday.

“Bob wanted nothing more than for the SRF to close its doors because we founda cure, and today we are as committed as ever to eradicating this disease,”the foundation’s statement continued. “Bob will always remain in our hearts aswe continue on this journey, and he will be with us all when we finallycelebrate finding a cure

‘We have made many attempts to book Daft Punk’

After ten years of dance parties in The Concertgebouw and under theRijksmuseum, Jeroen Fontein (42) and Naut Donders (35) of Audio Obscura nowwant to explore the world further with the audiovisual light art installationSora. “We’ve made a lot of attempts to book Daft Punk.”

Jasper RoeleJanuary 9, 202303:00

“We challenge artists at unique locations to do things a little differentlythan usual,” says Fontein about Audio Obscura’s house and techno parties, thefirst of which took place in 2013 in Het Concertgebouw. Together with Donders,he wanted to organize parties where the DJ would get more space and attentionand at locations where this had never been done before. Fontein: “With that inmind, we organized our first event in The Concertgebouw, where we put the DJin the place of the conductor.”

In the past ten years, in addition to The Concertgebouw and the bicycle tunnelunder the Rijksmuseum, there have also been parties in Central Station, thehead office of clothing brand G-Star along the A10 in Southeast, theMuziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and in the Loft at the top of the A’ Dam Tower.

Each and every one of them also locations that entail additional challenges, says Donders. “We have to take into account things that other organizers don’teven have to think about. Acoustically, our locations are often far fromoptimal and a lot of extra work is also involved in terms of walking routes. For us, every new location is a kind of empty shell and then we look at whatwe can do there.”

Ornament was about to come loose

That also sometimes goes wrong. In 2017, a party with DJs Dixon and Job Jobsein Het Concertgebouw had to be stopped in the middle of the evening. Anornament that had been incorrectly attached to the ceiling threatened to comeloose. In retrospect, something the organization could have done little about.“But at the moment it’s just a different story,” says Fontein. “We had to livewith the image that we had sent the public away in the middle of the eveningand that was read everywhere. And when the research is completed, it will beon page 8 a few weeks later. That is a hard lesson.”

Donders says that it has given them a very thick skin and has become ‘somewhatmore risk-averse’. “But we still have the bravura and guts we started with.”

Underworld in 2017 for Audio Obscura in the bicycle tunnel under theRijksmuseum.

Because of that bravura and guts, we managed to throw a party twice in thebicycle tunnel under the Rijks during Amsterdam Dance Event in 2016 and 2017.For both the most beautiful location where they have given a party so far, they say. Donders: “We started there with a firm no and a few years later itworked. It felt like the impossible place to organize something and in the endit worked, with a full production with all the trimmings. And the second yearwith Underworld, one of our dream acts. When I cycle there, those images stillflash before me.”

That one act that didn’t want to work

For Fontein, Underworld was therefore the most beautiful act they managed tobook. “They lean more towards artists. They measured the echo in the tunnel toincorporate it into their music for the performance. Then you already knowthat it is going to be very special.”

In addition to Underworld, almost all the big names from the house and technoscene have now performed at an Audio Obscura party. Peggy Gou, Maceo Plex,Joris Voorn, Kölsch, Solomun, Adriatique; they all turned.

Yet there was always that one act that did not want to succeed. Donders: “Wehave made many attempts to book Daft Punk. We sent gold envelopes withhandwritten letters. I would do anything for it, it was really my dream.”

Daft Punk has since stopped, but Donders would now like to book Fred Again andJamie XX. “I am very much looking forward to that and I think it will happen. At Fred Again I can say that there is mutual interest.” Fontein would like tosee Rüfüs Du Sol at one of his parties. “I think there are still too fewelectronic dance acts, but if there are, I like to embrace them. And they arealso super fat.”

Joris Voorn in 2016 for Audio Obscura in the Concertgebouw.

Abroad

Although all their parties are almost always sold out, Fontein and Dondersalso look further ahead. Just before corona, they brought the audiovisual artinstallation Skalar to the Gashouder and this month they are doing so withSora by the artist duo Nonotak, consisting of Noemi Schipfer and TakamiNakamoto, who have previously exhibited in Miami, New York and Taipei. AtSora, light and sound are constantly combined.

For the exhibition, Fontein and Donders have set up a new company, Unfold.art,in order not to cause confusion with Audio Obscura among the public. Theintention is that Sora will also be seen abroad soon. “We want to go toIstanbul, London and Barcelona within three years. And to Seoul, Tokyo andSingapore,” says Fontein. Donders: “We are already in talks with many of thosecities, so we think these are reasonably achievable goals.”

Yet Sora is not without a dance party either. On January 28, in combinationwith the audiovisual light installation, there will be a party at night in theGashouder, where Adriatique and Henrik Schwarz will play, among others. AndAudio Obscura is not sitting still this year. Fontein: “We have some surprisesfor our 10th anniversary and hope they all continue.”

12 series to look forward to in 2023

The entertainment industry was shocked when Netflix lost subscribers for thefirst time in a decade in the first quarter of 2022. Wall Street lost faith instreaming and suddenly the days of unbridled growth and unprecedented budgetsfor big TV series seemed over. __

Nevertheless, it will not be much less in the short term with the contentsupply and the associated series choice stress. Also in 2023, hundreds of newseries will compete for the attention of the viewer, the new economic realitymay not be visible until later in the offer. Last year the conversation was alot about very expensive blockbuster series like House of the Dragon and_The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power_. The success of a much smallerproduction like The Bear , one of the best series of 2022, proves that thereis a demand for authentic stories with ‘real’ flesh and blood characters. ThatAmerican drama series, about a tormented star chef who has to take over asimple sandwich shop after the death of his brother, stood out for itsrealistic depiction of kitchen life.

The streaming and TV highlights of 2023 are difficult to predict. For example, last year around this time hardly anyone knew The Bear was coming at all.Nevertheless, many productions have already been announced that lookpromising.

Prince Harry wants family back, but TV interviews don’t seem to help | Royal family

Prince Harry wants nothing more than to restore contact with his family, hesaid (again) in TV interviews on Sunday to promote his book. The British royaltakes part Reserve one remarkable anecdote after another and his family isnot spared. According to critics, the chance of reconciliation seems to begetting smaller and smaller.

Harry’s memoirs are in stores from Tuesday morning, but several passages havealready leaked. One thing is certain: the prince does not mince words. Williamin particular has to pay for it. According to Harry, his brother physicallyassaulted him.

The book was finished in the summer, even before Queen Elizabeth’s death inSeptember. It was expected that Harry would be a bit milder in interviewsafter the loss of his grandmother. “After Elizabeth passed away, Harry spenttime with his family. You’d think he’d choose his words a little morecarefully after that,” writes Sky News in an analysis.

“But that was absolutely out of the question. He continues to hang out thedirty laundry. And the worst part is that this overshadows the saddest story:the loss of his mother.”

Among other things, the prince speaks with little love about Camilla, the wifeof his father Charles since 2005. “She was the enemy,” the prince told ITV.”She had to fix her image.”

I get why Harry is sharing this. But the way he does that, he smashes his> own glasses.

The Independent

Camilla, now queen consort, had an affair with (then) Prince Charles foryears. That made her unpopular with the general public. Nor with Harry, it nowappears. “It was dangerous because she wanted to get a white foot with thepress. She was therefore open to exchanging information. And that could claimvictims.”

According to the prince, his older brother William would do the same:deliberately share information about Harry, for example. In return, the mediawould spare William and write nothing negative about him.

Harry describes that relationship with the press as “making a pact with thedevil”. “If you think you should do that to polish your image. Well, that’s achoice. But if you also discredit others… I would never do that myself.”

‘Terrible’ reactions after Elizabeth’s death

The British royal says that this also happened after his grandmother Elizabethdied. The family reunited shortly after her death. Harry expected them tomourn and reminisce. “But they reacted horribly to it. There was only talk ofbriefings, information was deliberately leaked to the press. I was like, aren’t we here to celebrate grandma’s life?”

Harry denies that he is out to put his family in a bad light. “Certainly notmy stepmother,” says the prince. “I want to restore the bond, but I do thinkthey should take responsibility for what they’ve done. If it’s up to me, I’llforgive them everything. I want my dad back, I want my brother back. But fornow that’s it not in it, because it remains silent from their side.”

Critics say it will stay that way for some time to come. “I understand whyHarry is sharing this. But the way he does it makes him throw his ownglasses,” says the British newspaper’s royalty reporter The Independent.

Even the most ardent royalty fans feel they’ve been given an information> overload.

The Telegraph

Harry also joined the American talk show 60 Minutes , where journalistAnderson Cooper dared to be a bit bolder than his British colleague from ITV.For example, he asked Harry to cry when he heard that his mother had died.

The prince then told how he dealt with Diana’s death in his twenties. He foundit hard to cry about it at the time. “So I started drinking heavily, and alsodoing drugs. While watching videos of my mom online. Maybe that brought tearsto my eyes.” Therapy helped him, as did his time in the military. “I was faraway from the British press, I finally felt normal. And I had a purpose in

Wie is de Mol viewers see striking hints pointing to mole

Last night millions of people were back in front of the tube for the start ofthe 23rd season of Who is the mole?. And of course every viewer sees hiddenhints, striking symbols and other clues that lead to the final mole. Althoughthey are different for everyone.

Part of the viewers is already certain: the mole is Olympic swimmer RanomiKromowidjojo. And that has everything to do with the very first assignment ofthis season. Because there was something that pointed very strongly in thedirection of the swimmer.

The phone call to the Wie is de Mol? candidates

In the first episode, things went a little differently than we are used tofrom the makers of Who is the mole?. We saw how the candidates were puttogether one by one in a room with a telephone and got to know each otherthere. It led to some inconvenience, because the candidates themselves had notexpected this.

After some buzz, the phone rang. In the end, that happened ten times: eachcandidate was told by Everon Jackson Hooi, the mole from the previous season, what his or her role would be in the game. Until then, the mole did not knowthat he or she would be the saboteur of the game. “It’s about time you put onyour poker face,” the former mole tipped the candidates during every call.

Twitter isn’t Twitter if viewers don’t run off with the images.

During the call, some viewers heard something striking. Everon reports to thecandidates at the end that he has handed over the baton to the new mole. Butthe way he says that, viewers find suspicious. Soy Kroon in particular has tosuffer, who is the most suspected nationally, judging by the figures in the_Who is the mole_ app.

Because Everon says something that points strongly in the direction of theactor.

The Olympic rings of ‘mole’ Ranomi Kromowidjojo

Then it will be switched to the old historic center of Cape Town, SouthAfrica. There on the Western Cape the game takes place this season. There arefive boxes through the center, with two candidates in each box. They need toknow how to play out of the box. In the end, four candidates succeed, who alsoarrive at the place where they should end up. This way they win 500 euros forthe pot.

But the game seems to hold clear hints, viewers say. There are five colors onthe box, exactly the same colors as the colors in the Olympic rings: blue, yellow, black, green and red. And which of the candidates has something to dowith the Olympic Games? Triple Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Twitterusers know. Although some find it “very easy”.

They think it’s time for a female mole again. In the past ten seasons, it wasmainly men who sabotaged the game.

Second assignment and ‘a bit of luck’?

But other viewers see very different hints and clues. In the secondassignment, five candidates have to sing along with a beautiful South Africanchoir and a conductor has to pick them out when they walk by singing. Thatends surprisingly well for the candidates: the man manages to pick ‘only’ twocandidates who do not belong to the choir.

Before that, this conductor had said that he “hopes for a bit of luck”. Andthat, according to viewers, indicates that the mole must be Jurre Geluk. Thefact that he was sitting on a chair with number 13 during the episode is alsosuspicious to some viewers.

This candidate must Wie is de Mol? leave. Or not?

Finally, the test must be done. Who do the candidates themselves suspect?Unfortunately (spoiler alert) the curtain falls for Sarah Janneh. He gets tosee the well-known red screen of presenter Rik van de Westelaken, because shewould have made the test the least well.

But does she really have to get out? At the end of the episode, she receives aletter and a phone call informing her that she still has a chance to get backinto the game.

Viewers see clues in the episode’s intro and title

Some viewers notice that someone is sitting by the campfire in the hotel whereSarah gets the announcement. Some say it concerns Nabil, others suspect DanielVerlaan. The tech journalist is more often suspected by viewers anyway. Theysee hints in the intro and in the title of the episode that point to thejournalist.

He would also have sung along with a Britney Spears song during the musicassignment. “I’m not so innocent”, he would have sung. “That is typicallysomething you will see in the last episode when the mole is revealed,” says aviewer.

Those viewers suspect less include Sander de Kramer, Froukje de Both and NabilAoulad Ayad. Spoke with the last two participants Subway about theiradventure in South Africa.

Wynonna Judd reflects on the last time she sang with mom Naomi: ‘She was very fragile’

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call 988 to reach the Suicide andCrisis Lifeline. You can also call the network, previously known as theNational Suicide Prevention Lifeline, at 800-273-8255, text HOME to 741741 orvisit SpeakingOfSuicide.com/resources for additional resources.

The last time Wynonna Judd shared a stage with her mother, Naomi Judd, waslast spring, just weeks before her 76-year-old parent and country musicpartner’s death by suicide — and it was unlike any other time they performedtogether.

In an interview with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb for her “Making Space with Hoda Kotb”podcast, Wynonna Judd opened up about what made that night so different fromall the other times the Judds’ singers belted out their hits side by side.

“She was very fragile,” the 58-year-old said of her mother’s demeanor that> night in April 2022, when they put on their final performance at the CMT> Awards.

The duo were there to sing their 1990 single “Love Can Build a Bridge,” but asthey harmonized, Wynonna saw more than love in her mom’s eyes. She also saw atrepidation she’d never seen before a show.

“I think it’s because she hadn’t sung in a long time,” she explained. “And Ithink when our parents get older, their world gets smaller. And she was late(that night), and she is never late. I think she was nervous. And I think itwas so much of an expectation to do it for CMT Awards, and I just think itwas, like, imagine being that nervous and having to go out.”

Wynonna shared that her first instinct wasn’t to comfort her mother in thatmoment — though that came in time. Instead, all she could focus on at firstwas the towering, wine-colored, spotlight-stealing wig her mother wore to theevent.

“The first thought in my head was, no, I don’t want to hug her or comfort her.I want to pull her wig off,” she recalled. “Because that was the dynamics ofour relationship. It was tough and tender.”

Story continues

She went on to describe them both as “alpha and determined” in theirrelationship with each other, noting that the tenderness part took some extratime to find.

“It was sometimes hard for me to be tender with mom, because I’m the leadsinger, and I’m on my own version of life, on my own journey,” Judd continued.”And I think it occurred to me, though. All of a sudden, she looked at me andblinked, and I knew then that something wasn’t right in terms of her being offa little bit, like, nervous. I softened, which I think is God’s grace. I justkind of reached out and touched her hand, like, ‘I’m here. I got you. It’sOK.'”

She added, “I’m glad I did that, because that was the last time we performedtogether. I’m glad I didn’t stay stuck in my perfectionism is my point, Iguess.”

Back in October, during an interview with People magazine, Wynonna revealedthat “I love you” was “the last thing” she said to Naomi before she died. Butduring her chat with Hoda, the hit-maker revealed that she’s had a lot more tosay to Naomi since then.

“I had a lot of conversations with her,” she confessed. “I’m constantlytalking to her about, ‘Well, what the hell am I supposed to do aboutwardrobe?’ Because she was always the wardrobe (person).”

And the conversations get heavy at times.

“I talk to her a lot about (how) I don’t understand, I don’t understand, Idon’t understand. I kept saying, ‘Why, why, why did you do this? Why did youdo this? Why did you do this?’ I talk a lot to her… I’m still struggling bigtime with, ‘Why did you do this?'”

It’s a question she asks not only for herself, but also for others who arestruggling in their own lives.

“I want to help other people not do what my mother (did),” she added. “I talkto her a lot about, ‘What am I supposed to do now? We were supposed to do arecord together. We were supposed to do this tour together. We’re supposed to,we’re supposed to… “Life is a mystery, you know?”

However, Wynonna doesn’t want her mother’s life to remain a mystery to fans —or to be defined by how it ended.

“My mother was very kind,” the “I Saw the Light” singer said. “(She) alwaysmade people feel, whether it was a limo driver or the maid in the hallway, shealways spoke to everyone. She will be remembered for that, the kindness. Andthe ones that didn’t know her, I would say give her a break, because they’regoing to judge her based on what they know about the suicide.”

So Judd shared how she’d like her family’s matriarch remembered.

“I would like for her to be remembered for being a great songwriter,” shenoted. “She’s still my queen.”

Barely 20, but DJ Amber Broos gets her own show on One World Radio: “My parents accompany me to every performance” | Showbiz

MusicThe summer of her life gets a sequel. After successful DJ sets on stagesworldwide, Amber Broos (20) now gets her own show on One World Radio -Tomorrowland’s radio station. At twenty, the youngest DJ in a line-up full ofstars, but certainly not the least. “Twelve-year-old Amber wouldn’t evenbelieve this.”

“Do you have a moment? Then I put my book away”, Amber Broos laughs when weget her on the phone. “I am currently in full exams, and I am studying.” Notthat the communication sciences student from Leuven will soon be less busy, onthe contrary. After all, today it became known that Amber is getting her ownradio show on One World Radio. Every second Sunday of the month she treatslisteners to her unique style in ‘Sorry For The Noise’ – in which techno, house and Belgian retro-inspired music take the upper hand. “I really can’tbelieve I can check this off my bucket list. I started around the age ofthirteen. My dad Joeri has been a DJ himself for years. He also has his own DJschool where I used to practice after school. Not only has he passed on hispassion to me, he is also my biggest fan. Is he not jealous? No, he isgenuinely happy that I get to experience all this. Together with mom, he alsoaccompanies me to every performance. Although they can handle it well, theyare forced to be night owls, because I don’t have a driver’s license yet. Ipassed my theoretical exam during the corona crisis, the practical part willhopefully follow in March.”

Nervous debut in Boom

At the age of sixteen, Amber took the step that would define her career ratherby chance. “I had responded to a question from Studio Brussel. It was aboutthe inequality between men and women in the music industry. One thing led toanother and so I was allowed to work as a resident DJ. That eventually led toits own show with ‘UNTZ’.”

“Of course I was proud of that, but Tomorrowland also remained a dream. Ireally look up to artists like Charlotte de Witte and Amelie Lens, and theyhave played the tiles of the roof so often. As a DJ they are an example. Andthen suddenly it happened last year. When I saw that booking, I was blownaway. And then stress. Before my very first set, I was so nervous that Icouldn’t fully enjoy it.”

Not that she had long to think about it. After her debut in Boom, sheimmediately went to Ibiza. There Amber was allowed to play for the first timein the legendary club Ushuaïa. “I was programmed just before Paul Kalkbrenner.Insanely, and 2023 has started just as nicely. Not only is there ‘Sorry forthe Noise’, but I will soon also be playing on the mainstage of TomorrowlandWinter. I hope to be able to smuggle some of my own music into my set by then.If I could go back in time and tell this to 12-year-old Amber, she wouldn’tbelieve it. (laughs)

In search of the deeper logic of ‘Wie is de Mol?’

Can I still start with my New Year’s resolution, or should I keep itachievable, this television season? A new episode traditionally starts on thefirst Saturday of January Who is the mole? , this year for the 23rd time. AsI’ve stated before, I don’t get the program, I don’t get the excitement aroundit, and quite frankly I don’t want to get it. Or wanted to, I should say, because this year I intend to delve into the logic of this game with tencandidates, always well-known Dutch people, who have to complete assignmentstogether to earn money. Among them is one, no one knows who, who is secretlysabotaging things. Who that is, the candidates have to find out, and the fewmillion Dutch people who are watching guess to their heart’s content.

I can’t promise that I’ll be sitting in front of the TV with a notebook to jotdown every clue, no matter how brief. I also don’t have the app where you canearn points with Mol vision and suspicions. I don’t listen to the podcast(yet) and I wasn’t planning to watch it on Sunday evenings Mole tricks ayouth spin-off in which Lavezzi Rutjes systematically checks which of thecandidates behaves suspiciously and could well be the mole.

Saturday, first episode, I was ready. The first hurdle is always: do I knowall the celebrities? Not all, but at least eight by name. Actors andpresenters are often overrepresented, this time too, and this year’s topathlete is Ranomi Kromowidjojo, the swimmer. This time there was also ajournalist among them, Daniël Verlaan, an investigative journalist after all.

Maybe that’s what’s eating at me so much, the whole idea that I should havethe skills to detect the Mole in-house. A little journalist can observe, youwould say. Always a bit of an outsider, the one who can listen, has knowledgeof people, has an eye for details, looks closely, does not judge (tooquickly). And how nice is it to experience on a Saturday night that you failon all those fronts?

Worldview

Of course it could also be that my worldview is wrong, after all, distrust isthe engine of journalism, and behind every sheep there is a mole. And thatidea is exactly what the makers of De Mol actively encourage. Everything issuspicious and there can be a clue in everything. From the title of theepisode (Connection) to the names of the assignments (Pokerface, The GoldenMean), whether a candidate is too fanatical or too relaxed.

Maddening and exhausting. I think so, but I didn’t quit this time, Ipersevered to the end. A bit high to follow immediately Mol talc it seemedto me, in which the entire episode is completely rehashed in the studio withtwo presenters and three guests – all former participants. I saved that halfhour of collective conspiracy thinking until Sunday.

Almost every name passed by as a possible Mole, even the first dropout SarahJanneh was not exonerated – while the Mole is the only one who can never besent home. But, someone cleverly said, Sarah wasn’t going home, she gotanother chance to stay in the game at the end of this first episode.“Brilliant”, they thought in the studio. If it turns out that Sarah remains inthe game in episode two, no one will suspect her.

Just looking is not enough, I had imposed active participation on myself. So Ihave a Mole in mind. Annick Boer. Actress. She was immediately called AnnickPanic because she shouted at the very first assignment that she was”completely overwrought”. Apart from the fact that I understand that verywell, I found her so-called muddledness extremely suspicious.
